QUESTION: Why have a re-read club?
ANSWER: Let me ask you something, honestly - did you feel like you knew what was going on in Onyx Storm, or did you feel like you should have re-read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame before you tried to figure out what/who (a) Llewelyn is?
Sure, reading something new is cool, but here are some reasons you might want to re-read a series (in a book club):
-
A new book is coming out and you are pumped/want a refresher
-
You want to talk fan theories and make new friends with amazing taste and correct opinions
-
You haven’t read the books, but spoilers don’t bother you. You love knowing it all.
QUESTION: Why is it The ACOTAR Re-Read Bookclub and not The ACOTAR and CC Re-Read Bookclub?
ANSWER: We’re getting pumped for the release of Acotar 6! Also, Crescent City bookclub tickets are not on sale yet, because they are too far away and we reserve the right to change the dates.
QUESTION: Is it bookclub or book club?
ANSWER: It depends. If you’re talking about a book club in theory, like “I wish there was a re-read book club of my favourite series”, then book club is two words. If you’re talking about the dope bookclub that you are in, like, “Meet me at Joie de livres for a drink after my bookclub!”, then bookclub is one word.
QUESTION: What is included in the ticket?
ANSWER: Your ticket includes the two-hour book club facilitated by Carrie-Ann “Have you read Throne of Glass?” Kloda, one of our directors, as well as snacks, and two (2) drink tickets - valid for any of our drinks (excluding cocktails and matcha), or for one (1) cocktail.
QUESTION: If the event is sold out, will you release more tickets?
ANSWER: No, we won’t be able to sell more tickets as a book club with more than 25 people would be more presentation than participation, and one of our goals is to build more community. That means making space for y’all to speak up. That said, you should definitely send us a DM on Instagram or an email (info(at)joiedelivres.ca) expressing your wishes for us to have more ACOTAR events so we can gauge interest and plan accordingly.
QUESTION: Why is the ticket so expensive?
ANSWER: Our aim is to turn a profit that we can invest back into our community, which includes the people who work at Joie de livres!
The ticketing platform we use, @humanitix, also has fees, which adds a few bucks to the cost… which they then donate to charity. (Seriously - 100% of their profits go to charity - check them out!)
We know that not all of our events are accessible to everyone for this reason, and we do host lower cost and free community events regularly. Check out our $10/spot book clubs on Tuesdays, Soirée Sommelier on Wednesdays, and themed Sapphic Saturdays on the second Saturday of every month!
QUESTION: I still have questions.
ANSWER: DM us on Instagram or email Carrie-Ann at ca(at)joiedelivres(dot)ca !
