Bookstore Joie de Livres celebrates pleasurable reading and community building. Sisters and co-owners, Claire and Sylvie Trottier, launched Joie de Livres, Montreal’s first conceptual bilingual bookstore with an integrated café and bar, in spring 2025. Their goal is to eliminate the stigma around leisure reading and have fun.

Sisters Claire and Sylvie Trottier, both dedicated readers, had long joked that they would love to open a bookstore one day where you could not only shop for a new read but also tuck into a plate of delicious nachos.

« Est-ce que c’est important pour toi qu’il y ait des fées ou des dragons ? » Mon amie, qui voulait lire un premier ouvrage érotique fantastique, a souri au libraire en haussant les épaules. « Euh, oui ? » Très bien, qu’il a répondu, avant de lui proposer une vaste sélection de romans. Moi, je l’observais, les yeux ronds. Je découvrais un genre littéraire dont je ne soupçonnais pas la popularité.

Un nouveau concept commercial vient d’apparaître à Montréal: une librairie spécialisée en romance, fantasy, science-fiction et horreur, mais qui offre également un service de bar ainsi que de la nourriture et du bon café.
